First, I didn’t lie. I really didn’t intend on sending another post this week, but I don’t want you going into Labor Day and the upcoming debate mistakenly thinking “we got this” because, we don’t. I want to save you from the wishful and understandably skewed thinking of our own punditry and shed a little reality on the Harris-Walz interview few of you watched.
I, myself, had to tie my body to the chair and tape my remote onto the CNN channel in order to get through it. But I survived and I’m here to tell you:
DO NOT BELIEVE THE RIGHT-WING PUNDITRY whose viewpoint comes straight to you from inside their own conservative bubble (yes, we have one of those, too).
Undecided voters — the voters who will determine the outcome of this election — did not necessarily see the same “absolute joke” or “San Francisco radical” conservatives are writing about today.
Yes, there were softball questions — are you surprised by that?
Yes, there was as much talk, if not more, about non-issues like Crying Baby Walz, Joe’s phone call while making pancakes for her grand-nieces, and the picture of her grand-niece watching her accept the nom — yawn.
Yes, the entire presentation was more like a campaign ad than a hard-hitting interview — is that news to you?
Yes, when asked about her change in policies, Dana Bash set her up with a list of explanations that she ignored when declaring “my values have not changed” — a non-answer answer no one should be astounded by but that we can exploit.
Yes, she had her emotional support person next to her, undermining her confidence and would-be strength as leader of the world — bad optics and might sway a few votes, but a shocker? Nope.
Yes, she lied about nearly every economic statistic from bringing inflation to under 3%, returning 800,000+ manufacturing jobs back to America, and the loss of 10 million jobs under the Trump Administration — sigh. This is what the Dems always do - LIE.
And yes, OMG OMG OMG — both Kamala and Timala obfuscated, circumlocuted, and deflected from directly answering the few questions that hinted at policy (so glad I got those SAT words in) — have you picked yourself up off the floor, yet?
Asked what she’d do on her first day in office, KH didn’t quite go word salad, but did all she could to avoid an answer — highlighting, instead, her intention to be a champion of the VERY middle class that her Party of Asses has completely left in the dust and whose futures, families, and freedoms have been jeopardized by the VERY policies of the Biden-Harris Administration. As if that weren’t already enough, she announced her intention to focus on another stolen Republican policy — creating an “opportunity economy.”
For those still living in Rio Linda — that was a George W. Bush policy; and for those asleep at the wheel — it’s a rip off of Trump’s “opportunity zones” in failing black neighborhoods.
The other big whiff, was Timala’s response to his misrepresentations about his military service — not about his rank or bugging out on war, but about carrying a mean old nasty NRA-loved gun into war. He talked about how proud he was of his service to this country and as a teacher — I bet he wouldn’t be too thrilled if Baby Timala not only cried like a girl, but used the Governor’s tampons on a visit to the boys’ loo, too.
(I don’t usually talk about the children of a presidential candidate but, hey, they brought it up.)
But I digress. When further pressed by Dana I wanna Bash my head against the wall every time she speaks…he attributed his gun in war statement to … grammar. Not the person mouthing the grammar, but grammar ate Timmy’s homework.
(The big lesson undecided voters should but likely won’t take from this is that the Party of Asses thinks YOU are THAT stupid. If you are that stupid, there isn’t much we can do but try to educate you — and that is the job of Trump and his campaign. If he fails to do that, he loses the election. If you are irreversibly stupid, we are royally hosed.)
This wasn’t an interview to woo Never-Trumpers like George W. Bush who is already leaning Harris. It’s an appeal to the people who will decide the election - the indies, the undecideds, the convinceables, the lost and lonelies.
And, right on cue: she sets up, she shoots, she scores!
How is that, Sally?
Because for weeks, Republicans have been talking endlessly about Kommiela’s stupidity; her inability to speak (SAT spoiler alert) extemporaneously and, when she succeeds, it’s all garbled word salad, anyway; and her commie policies that are bad for all Americans. This has been the conservative mantra 24-7 since she defied Democracy by phone call.
Instead of seeing that commie-pinko-mess of a Kamala, we saw someone:
who was NOT giddy to the point of nauseating;
who was pleasant, calm, and in control — even though, to those of us in the know, she was clearly reciting well-rehearsed responses or as JD Vance put it “coached to pretend to be a moderate”;
whose policies sounded pretty middle-of-the-road and not at all communist — even though they are ours and are decidely pro-free market;
who would govern ecumenically (yup, SAT) by being open to having a Republican in her administration (we aren’t swayed — it would be like William Cohen working for Clinton—but sounds great to an indie); and
who claims to always invite differing views when deciding important issues (BS but sounds great to the ignorant-undecided snowflake who doesn’t like the messy sausage making of politics and the combativeness of The Grand Swirlmaster).
Conservatives focusing on her “deadlines around time” comment when discussing Greenology, is a big, fat, honking waste of time with almost no political yield except affirmation to those looking to boost the “stupid, insipid, nonsensical Kamala” persona.
So if you take off your MAGA hats, and put on the I really don’t wanna vote for the Orange Man but I’m not convinced about Kama-Timala either hat, I’m sorry to be the wet blanket but the interviewees did what needed to be done:
portrayed a candidate who cares about forgotten Americans;
allowed her to defenstrate (SAT) right-wing talking points about “stupid, insipid, nonsensical Kamala” that have dominated the conservative conversation since she was anointed;
took the wind out of Trump’s pro-free market policy sails by appropriating them as her own, thereby knocking the bejesus out of the characterization of her as a communist;
rearranged the failures of the Biden-Harris Administration of the last four years to be failures of Trump from five to eight years ago; and
set her up positively for the upcoming debate.
I do not want us to let our guard down going into the final stretch of this race thinking the rest of the world sees Kama-Timala as the “absolute joke” our punditry sees her as — right as they are but only from our POV. Our viewpoint isn’t what matters; only what the undecideds see and hear and think.
We don’t want to walk into election night falsely optimistic, like many did with Romney who, we were told, was surging at the last minute, with undecideds breaking for him such that he might just pull it off…something that was obviously not even close to happening as the earliest results started to pour in and Karl Rove had a nervous breakdown on national TV.
There is one good thing to come of this interview: mucho fodder-o for Republican campaign attack ads to juxtapose the responses in this interview with the long-held positions of the Red Party of Kama-Timala.
All the lying, flip-flopping, and misappropriating matter because they reflect a person who is not to be trusted; someone who has erected a Potemkin Village of a campaign that will not resemble anything in real time that she describes on the campaign trail. And if you don’t believe she is a commie or that her policies are pink, veiled promises that change on a dime by an empty pantsuit and aren’t fulfilled once “elected” are exactly what happens with every communist regime that has ever existed.
We cannot rely on this interview or even the debate to get this point across to the votes that matter.
When she claims to be a moderate, we show the radical. When she claims to support the middle class, we explain how her policies are destroying the middle-class. When she pooh-poohs inflation, we show how her policies created the 9% rise in prices we see buying gas, clothes, school supplies, baby formula. When she claims successes at the border, we show how her policies opened the border to millions, provided them with free housing, and cost hardworking Americans their jobs, their safety, their children, and their prosperity. When she claims to support Israel, we show how her policies have undermined Israel every step of the way and why that’s bad for the world. And so forth and so on.
This is what we should be talking about non-stop until November 5th.
Understand: the Party of Asses doesn’t want Trump to campaign on anything but silly, stupid, insipid, nonsensical, word salad, commie Kamala. But, as we saw in the interview, THAT Kamala will not be making much of an appearance between now and Election Day 2024. We should not be duped into or distracted by that temptation, especially when we have the facts of the last four years on our side.
Let’s roll!
Sally
Thanks for reading and commenting Judi. Yeah, the question game...can't win bec our pundits were posing questions that no one would ever ask (except our pundits) so that wasn't realistic -- don't misunderstand, I'd love it if they asked those questions but except for a few moderators, ain't gonna happen; and their team is all about soft balls...no, not even. Whiffle balls -- all full of air and fluff and don't go very far. I feel badly that is wasn't a snippet but knowing most of our folks didn't watch, I felt I needed to provide some context so people could understand where I was coming from. Thx again, Judi!
u mean undecided?
